Actress Alison Wandzura will be lighting up the screen in the highly anticipated TV series Van Helsing. From the Producers of Emmy winning Fargo and Hell on Wheels, Van Helsing features Alison Wandzura as a key character in an apocalyptic vampire world. The new series premieres on September 23, 2016 at 10/9c on the SyFy network.
Van Helsing is described as “a twist on the classic vampire adventure tale”. In Van Helsing, Alison’s character was originally written only into the pilot episode but was expanded over the first season. Alison plays the recurring character Nicole alongside Kelly Overton (True Blood), Jonathan Scarfe (Hell on Wheels), Christopher Heyerdahl (True Blood), David Cubitt (Medium, Ray Donovan), and Aleks Paunovic (Continuum). Vanessa Helsing, distant relative of famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, is resurrected only to find that vampires have taken over the world. She is humanity’s last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.
“I fell in love with the Van Helsing characters and their journeys”, says Alison. “The show is gritty and unpredictable, and the stakes (pardon the pun) are always high. As an actor, you’re entering a world where your life is constantly in danger, with vampires gnashing at the gates, and you have to make that authentic to you, so it’s authentic to the audience.”
“It’s a gift to be part of the Van Helsing family, as it is the best crew and cast I’ve worked with,” reflects Alison. “Kelly Overton, our leading lady, is incredibly down-to-earth and gracious,” Alison continues. “The vibe on any set trickles down from the top, so when the star of the show is as warm a person as Kelly, that spirit is contagious.”
Alison is currently working on the movie Story of a Girl, which is Kyra Sedgwick’s directorial debut, and part of Lifetime network’s “Broad Focus” initiative to promote female directors, writers, and producers. Alison plays a well-to-do former colleague of the character played by Jon Tenny(Scandal, The Closer). Alison will also be appearing on The Magicians (SyFy) and Rogue (DirecTV), both airing in 2017. Other credits include The X Files, iZombie, Mistresses, Age of Adaline and Once Upon A Time.
This year Alison co-produced and co-starred in Singer Sisters, a comedic short film that won a $10,000 grant from Telus Storyhive. In the film she plays Sarah, an actress who’s being pressured to go under the knife in order to land a role on a TV show. This film specifically created opportunities for women, as the producers, writer, director and many of the crew were female.
Alison grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Early signs of a future in acting began around the age of six when Alison started improvising shampoo commercials in her bathtub. As a kid she loved putting on puppet shows for whoever would watch. The turning point came in University while she was majoring in Business and minoring in Drama. She began performing in stage plays, which she considers to be the best training ground for an actor. “In a two-hour stage performance, you have to give a lot of yourself, and the stamina required for a three-week run with nightly performances is huge,” says Alison.
In her personal life, Alison has a 2-year-old Chihuahua named Cheetah, which she adopted through a group called “Big and Small Rescue”. She encourages people to save an animal’s life by adopting. Alison sticks to a regular workout regimen to stay in shape, often doing push-ups with her 10-pound Chihuahua on her back for a fun and further challenge.
Alison continues to pursue her acting career with the goal of telling thought-provoking stories, particular those with strong, empowering portrayals of women.

This has always been a topic that has fascinated me, and we at Ginger Nuts of Horror are very excited by this project. Please consider supporting the filmmakers either by donating to their crowd funding campaign, or even by just sharing this post with your friends and fellow horror / metal heads.
There have been documentaries on horror and there have been documentaries on heavy metal. But there has never been one that brings them both together and explores why they both go hand in hand.
The History of Metal and Horror is a documentary which explores the evolution of both heavy metal and horror and how the two genres have merged over time. It is common for fans of metal to be fans of horror, and vice versa.
This documentary contains the following:
A wave of terrifying paranormal phenomena has swept the UK. A virulent plague known as the Red Death has decimated the population. Law and order has broken down.
The Crisis Powers Government, operating from the fortified heart of London, is attempting to regain control, whilst a shadowy terrorist organisation is rumoured to be harnessing the power of darkness for its own ends.
To escape a riot-torn inner city, a group of survivors must band together, but their flight will force a harrowing confrontation with the demonic forces at the heart of society’s collapse.
Murder, suicide, mutilation and madness. Slaughter in the streets. Anything goes.
When the village of Beacon Fell is hit by an epidemic of violence, Jed Kittridge is one of the few people immune to the bloodlust that has turned his friends and neighbours into killers and rapists. Insanity fills the air. Friends become enemies. And in the aftermath of such death and destruction, all that matters is survival...because the world will never be the same again.
DEATHCRAWL is a fast-paced, violent thriller that takes inspiration from the extreme end of the horror spectrum.

Katherine and her team have been ordered to create an exhibit based around the lives of those unfortunates buried beneath. But the paupers represent part of the city’s history that Katherine prefers to avoid thinking about… as well as part of her own.
But the dead, having had nothing in life, are enraged that even the truth of how they lived is being taken from them. Buried up to twenty under one stone, they whisper in the dark. Maybe they can show Katherine and her colleagues what their history was really like… and how cheap life was considered.

Slashermania is an original graphic novel in the tradition of films such as Scream, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, The Final Girls and Cabin in the Woods. Functioning both as a tribute to, and an examination of, the eighties slasher movie phenomenon, it’s mostly played straight but with an undercurrent of post-modern self-awareness and some appropriately inappropriate laughs along the way - carefully designed not to undercut the scares.
It should appeal to readers of titles such as Tim Seeley’s Hack/Slash, Williamson/Henderson’s Nailbiter and Alex de Campi’s Grindhouse miniseries.

As a rule I generally don't back or even promote crowdfunded books. There are various reasons for it, such as a project never coming to fruition, the cost to reward ratio being utterly atrocious; fifteen quid for a thank you, really you have to be kidding.
However every now and then a project comes along that gets my spidey sense tingling. The Untold is one such Kickstarter project, an original horror comics series by Daniel Farrand (Writer and Creator) and Johannes Vick (Artist). A stylish black and white comic with subtle splashes of colour scattered about the pages. But more importantly it is a comic that relies more on psychological horror rather than all out gore. I love concept and the style of the comic.

Upon visiting her Grandpa Alice begins to see apparitions of a young girl, a demon called Daisy. The malevolent spirit drags Alice into a series of dark and twisted visions, each one more grotesque than the last.
Alice quickly realizes "Some things are better left Untold"
Ginger Nuts of Horror may well be the "heart and soul" of Horror review websites, but John Llewellyn Probert is the "Heart and Soul" of Horror writing. Ginger Nuts of Horror is always excited at the prospect of a new horror novel from John, and The Lovecraft Squad, is shaping up to be a cracking read. The first in a new shared world series created by Stephen Jones, this is a book we can't wait to get our teeth into.
There has always been something wrong about All Hallows Church. Not just the building, but the very land upon it stands. Reports dating back to Roman times reveal that it has always been a bad place blighted by strange sightings, unusual phenomena, and unexplained disappearances.
So in the 1990s, a team of para-psychiatrists is sent in to investigate the various mysteries surrounding the Church and its unsavoury legends. From the start, they begin to discover a paranormal world that defies belief. But as they dig deeper, not only do they uncover some of the secrets behind the ancient edifice designed by Zombie King Thomas Moreby but, hidden away beneath everything else, something so ancient and so terrifying that it is using the architect himself as a conduit to unimaginable evil.
After four days and nights, not everybody survives and those that do will come to wish they hadn t. Imagine The Haunting of Hill House, The Amityville Horror, The Entity and The Stone Tape rolled together into the very fabric of a single building. And then imagine if all that horror is accidentally released . . ."
