Slaughtered Bird Creations and Dragon Egg Media’s debut film collaboration, Burn, has wrapped and entered post-production.
The short psychological horror – directed by Judson Vaughan, creator of Pedro and the multi award-winning Soul Breaker - was filmed during February in Hertfordshire and north London, UK, over three days.
After several local disappearances prompt a nationwide manhunt, Burn focusses on Peter and Louise – two of many gripped by media-induced fear. When their son, Charlie, is born, the pair must find a way of raising him amid continuing public hysteria and incomprehensible personal tragedy.
Starring Max Cavenham and Emma Kelly, the story is the brainchild of www.TheSlaughteredBird.com co-owner, Chris Barnes, and - in partnership with Vaughan’s Dragon Egg Media label - will become the first project released under production umbrella, Slaughtered Bird Creations.
Incorporating its creators’ love of precise tension-building, Burn’s approach is both patient and unrelenting, stunningly captured by Joaquim Barreto’s cinematography, and brings classic psychological horror to the forefront of independent British cinema once again.

The anticipated remake that’s every bit as brutal as the original.
A brilliant reimagining of the French revenge shocker, this all-new version puts its own bloody stamp on the story – but is just as harrowing, visceral and gutsy. Directed by the “ones to watch” sibling duo of Kevin and Michael Goetz (Scenic Route), Martyrs is one of most exciting horror remakes yet.
Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits thE....
We like it because:
The Goetz brothers have made a bold move with trying to re-imagine the brutal and hugely popular original, but they’ve made it their own, creating something altogether new that’s part visceral horror, part psychological thriller.
It also boasts some great performances from its young cast, with Troian Bellisario and Bailey Noble proving themselves as two scream queens for the ultra-violent generation – plus cult star Toby Huss makes the most chilling appearance of his career.
See it for yourself… if you’ve got the guts.

Carlson says of the film’s plot and its relevancy:
“I’m drawn to stories that in someway are connected to the current state of mind. Stories that are happening now, in our own backyard. Most of the time for me, they just happen to be the darker stories.”

As production continues on the much anticipated horror/creature feature DEIMOSIMINE, director Chad Armstrong is giving us a first look at the new poster and creature design.
Poster design created by Dennis Preston.
Makeup Effects will be handled by John Harris, and his shop FX Magic is creating the creature. Photo of the creature 'Mr. Ballz' is of an in-process sculpt.
The film stars newcomer Rhiana Howell, Ashley Coughlin, and Tom Hagale.
A heroin addict undergoes a radical new kind of treatment for her condition; but the drug 'Deimosimine' instead creates for her a world of horror and blood. Is she the victim? The monster? Or both?
Deimosimine is scheduled for release later this year and is offering anyone who pre-orders any of the items at Deimosimine.com an eventual reimbursement. They are still raising funds to complete the creature which after everything is said and done will cost over 8K, which is a majority of the budget on a small budget film. Chad and Writer/Producer Andrew Thompson has vowed to not take any profits until backers, cast and crew are paid back.
Here's how the Director himself worded it...
"Instead of starting a new crowd funding campaign on Kickstarter or Indiegogo you can pre-order perks on our official site Deimosimine.com. This allows more of the funds to go into the production and spend less on fees that make it harder to reach our budget goals. We have vowed that everyone who pre-orders the film in any format or buys a "perk" from either our initial IndieGoGo campaign or from our official site will get reimbursed before we see a dime --so not only will you get a cool version of the film, screen credit, prop, etc., you will receive a full reimbursement after the film is released! We just want to make this fucking movie!"
"The anticipation and support of the film has been eye-opening, and we wanted to do something that rewards the backers 100%. After all, without them there would not be a film. They are supporting an idea, and the people behind that idea, without even seeing any footage! They want to be a part of something great, and we want them to be proud of it. It's not my film, it's not Andrew's film, it's OUR film -- and by that I mean everyone who's donated a buck, shared the film on social media, or did a write-up about it on their blog. We aren't going to rush this out and have a tinfoil creature, or resort to sub-par CGI, it's going to be EPIC!"
If you want to be a part of the film and help get the rest of the creature created, head on over to Deimosimine.com and get involved in the action!
Hell's Ditch by Simon Bestwick was released last year in hardback to great critical acclaim from some of the genres finest reviewers, and me. It is now available in paperback. I highly recommend that you grab a copy from the link below if you haven't already done so.
The dream never changes: a moonless, starless night without end. The road she walks is black, bordered with round, white pebbles or nubs of polished bone; she can't tell which but they're the only white in the darkness, marking her way through the night. In dreams and nightmares, Helen walks the Black Road. It leads her back from the grave, back from madness, back towards the man who caused the deaths of her family: Tereus Winterborn, Regional Commander for the Reapers, who rule the ruins of a devastated Britain. On her journey, she gathers her allies: her old mentor Darrow, the cocky young fighter Danny, emotionally-scarred intelligence officer Alannah and Gevaudan Shoal, last of the genetically-engineered Grendelwolves. Winterborn will stop at nothing to become the Reapers' Supreme Commander; more than anything he seeks the advantage that will help him achieve that goal. And in the experiments of the obsessed scientist Dr Mordake, he thinks he has found it. To Winterborn, Project Tindalos is a means to ultimate power; to Mordake, it's a means to roll back the devastation of the War and restore his beloved wife to the living. But neither Winterborn nor Mordake understand the true nature of the forces they are about to unleash. Forces that threaten to destroy everything that survived the War, unless Helen and her allies can find and stop Project Tindalos in time.
