Ginger Nuts of Horror
It’s a long, drowsy summer at the end of the 1980s, and Alan Dean and three of his friends cross the fields behind their village to look for a rumoured WW2 air raid shelter. Only half believing that it even exists beyond schoolboy gossip, the four boys nevertheless feel an odd tension and unease. And when they do find the shelter, and go down inside it, the strange and horrifying events that follow will test their adolescent friendships to breaking point, and affect the rest of their lives...
STRANGELOOP THEATRE AND CHEMICALLY IMBALANCED COMEDY
Enter a world filled with things so evil and crazy that when you shoot them, they stand up to get shot all over again
This fall Strangeloop Theatre, in a co-production with Chemically Imbalanced Comedy (C.I.C.), is bringing the horror comedy series Hack/Slash by Chicago artist and writer Tim Seeley from the 2D comic book page to a 3D Chicago stage.
"This production will appeal to hardcore fans of the comic book series, while still being accessible to theatre-goers coming in with little to no knowledge of Hack/Slash or Tim Seeley," said Brad Gunter, Hack/Slash director and co-artistic director of Strangeloop Theatre. "It promises to be a bloody good time — pun totally intended — for everyone who joins us."
Hack/Slash is the story of horror victim survivor Cassie Hack who, together with her disfigured sidekick Vlad, travels the country (and sometimes the underworld) fighting evil slashers who refuse to just lay down and die even after being burned, impaled and shot 20 times. The original comic book series, on which this production is based, ended its run in May of 2013. The series was recently relaunched by Image Comics as Hack/Slash: Son of Samhain and is co-written by Seeley's brother Steve Seeley and Michael Moreci.
Seeley is best known as co-creator of Hack/Slash and Revival, and for his work on G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, New Exiles and G.I. Joe vs. Transformers. He also currently co-writes the weekly series Batman: Eternal for DC Comics.
This is the second time Hack/Slash has sliced its way onto the Chicago stage. The first production, which featured a different script, was produced by New Millennium Theatre Company in 2005. Both productions were done in conjunction with creator Tim Seeley.
"It's great to see Hack/Slash brought to life again," Seeley said. "I'm excited for the fans to see it and to have it introduced to a new audience."
For the Strangeloop/C.I.C. version, Seeley's original comic book scripts were used as a basis for dialogue and action. This production pulls from several storylines giving fans and newcomers alike a glimpse into Cassie's history, the mayhem that made her what she is and, of course, plenty of slashers.
The cast of Hack/Slash is: Jean Burr as Cassie Hack; Tim Lee as Vlad; Miona Lee as
Emily Cristy and Erika Napoletano, Christopher Prchal, Pete Navi, Richard John McLain, John Rohr, Melissa Nelson, Karen DuVall and Renee Lynn Jackson as the ensemble.
Just in time for the Halloween season, Hack/Slash opens Friday, September 12, and runs through Saturday, November 1, on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. Please note, there is no performance on Friday, September 19.
The performances will be held at

FRANK IS IN TROUBLE.
Not the "best call the wife" sort of trouble. Not the "how on earth did I manage that?" sort of trouble. Not even the "I hope to God no-one ever finds out about this" sort. Frank would kill for that kind of trouble right now. But it's not Frank who's making that call.
Someone else is. And that someone else is Trouble like Frank has never known.
And now, Frank is discovering that in a survival situation, hope can be as much of a liability as despair...
Kit had this to say about the birth of this book.
The Genesis of Lifeline…
It’s all Stephen King’s fault.
I got given a copy of ‘On Writing’ 3 years ago for my birthday. After a couple of months I finally got around to reading it.
Fireworks. Instant revelation. Oh, yeah, writing. Of course, writing.
So I sat down in front of a blank word document. And I thought ‘Write about what scares you’. And I thought ‘what am I most scared of’?
The answer wasn’t long in coming.
I started to type. I had no idea how long it was going to be. I had no idea how it was going to end. All I had was a protagonist, an antagonist, and a scenario – cycling home from work, and getting knocked off your bike by a man with a baseball bat…
I wrote every evening for 3 weeks. At the end, I had a 17K manuscript called ‘Lifeline’.
I’ve written many short stories since, a couple of novella length pieces, and I’m nearly done with my first novel. But ‘Lifeline’ is where it all started for me. I’m proud of it, and happy to have it out in the world.
Thanks, Mr. King.
Praise for Lifeline:
"This isn't a story to dip in and out of at your leisure, this is a story that will devour you in one sitting. A stomach churning, white knuckle descent into pain, futility and desperation, a hideous turn of events from which there is but one slender lifeline ..." – Jasper Bark, Author of ‘Stuck On You’ and ‘Way of the Barefoot Zombie’
"...drags you right in and gets the heart pumping." - Marta Salek, Author of ‘The Oracle’
"Challenging. Intense. Hard Core." - Bruce Blanchard
"Kit Power is ready and willing to roll over your ribs with a baseball bat."
--Adam Cesare, author of Video Night and The Summer Job
"Very tense, edge of your seat stuff. Loved it!" - Jack Bantry, Editor of Splatterpunk Magazine
"LIFELINE is one of the darkest, most f**ked up stories I've read in a long time. Kit Power grabs you by the balls and squeezes from page one to the last. Prepare for a ride that's going to make you uncomfortable and change the way you think about life, just as all good horror should." - Max Booth III - Author of Toxicity and The Mind is a Razorblade
About Kit Power
Kit Power lives in Milton Keynes, England, and insists he’s fine with that. His short fiction has been published by Burnt Offering Books and MonkeyKettle Books, and his debut e-novella ‘The Loving Husband and the Faithful Wife’ (plus short story ‘The Debt’) was published by Black Beacon Books in January 2014. E-novella ‘Lifeline’, a thematic sequel to those tales, will be released on August 16th, and his debut novel (currently called ‘The God Issue’, but that may well change) is due out in Autumn 2014. Those of you who enjoy near-professional levels of prevarication are invited to check out his blog at http://kitpowerwriter.blogspot.co.uk/
He is also the lead singer and chief lyricist for legendary rock band The Disciples Of Gonzo, who have thus far managed to avoid world-conquering fame and fortune, though it’s clearly only a matter of time. They lurk online at http://disciplesofgonzo.com/
Kit will be contributing a brilliant monthly column entitled My Life In Horror where he will talk about the movies, books and music that warped his mind as a youth For a taste of Kit's great writing here are his previous fantastic guest posts
They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Which may be true, however a great cover does sell a book. As soon as I saw this cover I knew I had to own it You can either buy a kindle version of it from here or if like me you need the physical copy you can get it from here
A former supercop looks for trouble in a small town. His son stockpiles a drug that stops time. Meth dealers cover their body in snakes. A killer is pursued backward through time by interdimensional time-worms. All of these stories will come to a head following the appearance of an otherworldly assassin who can swallow his victims whole.
Anyhoo, if you’d like a sample, here’s a good bit from the novel.
A pestilence has fallen across the land. Run and hide. Seek shelter. Do not panic. The infected WILL find you.
When Great Britain is hit by a devastating epidemic, four old friends must cross a chaotic, war-torn England to reach their families. But between them and home, the country is teeming with those afflicted by the virus - cannibalistic, mutated monsters whose only desires are to infect and feed.
THE LAST PLAGUE is here.

Two night guards, belonging to different generations and different epochs, this, as every other night are repeating what they did while they were alive.
